Athens plaka & monastiraki
Back at the exit from the Ancient Agora, the little street to the right of the church, Kynetou Street, leads through to the flea market. Take Ifaistou Street to the right for souvlaki, leather goods and souvenirs, and don’t miss the arcade at 24 Ifaistou, especially if you’re a collector of old 12” vinyl records.
At the end of Ifaistou Street is Monastiraki Square and the metro. Straight past the metro, Pandrossou Street leads up towards the Cathedral, parallel to Adrianou. Alternatively, turning right from Pandrossou into Eolou Street takes you past Hadrian’s Library to the Roman Forum and the Tower of the Winds.
If you follow Pandrossou as far as the Cathedral in Mitropoleos Square, take a right into Venizelou Street, then left into Adrianou, which bends around back towards the Acropolis, eventually meeting Kydathineon Street in the centre of the Plaka area. Continuing another 100 yards to the end of Adrianou, Lysikratous Street brings you to Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Admission is included in the ticket from the Acropolis.
